In medieval times Teutonic Knights were building their empire for many years, following certain rules and trends outlined by their leaders. Therefore they were able to invade and conquer vast areas of land of today’s Poland. To protect their possessions against the enemies their built castles and watchtowers every 30 kilometers.
The example of such a building is a gothic castle in Malbork which in medieval ages was the headquarters of The Order of Teutonic Knights. Having been destroyed during the wars, it was reconstructed by the Polish restorers. The castle in Malbork is the only example of such a large building made of red brick in Europe. It has been entered on the UNESCO list and constitutes a building visited by millions of tourists a year. This delightful place is a "must-see".
